General Information...
The Evaluation
Committee of Private Universities (ECPU) is set up by the Council of
Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus following the provisions of the
Private Universities (Establishment, Operation and Control) Law 109(I)
of 2005.
According to
Article 10.- of the Law, the Council of Ministers appoints the seven
members of the Evaluation Committee on a five year tenure, based on the
suggestion of the Minister of Education and Culture. The purpose of the
Evaluation Committee is to examine the applications for the
establishment of Private Universities.
The Evaluation
Committee has the following structure:
The chairperson of
the Council of Educational Evaluation – Accreditation (CEEA) chairs the
Committee. CEEA is the competent authority for the educational
evaluation – accreditation of the programmes of studies offered by the
Private Institutions of Tertiary Education operating in the Republic of
Cyprus. Two of the ECPU members are also members of CEEA. The
remaining four members are professors with extensive experience on
university administration issues, based in three different countries.
The Evaluation
Committee determines both the manner of convening its meetings, the
procedures followed during the meetings and in general during the
performance of its duties. It has the authority to appoint teams of
experts to examine certain aspects concerning an application, but the
final decision lies with the Committee. |
